I've been writing so much this week in hopes of finishing Ninja's Crush plot before Feb. So for now I'm going to introduce some other characters to you nice people. Today we're talking about the StarSkater trio (and a few bonuses) Star, Erwin and Cathy.
The idea for StarSkater came from a dream a had (like a lot of my Ruby City stories), in the dream there were many kids running around in the house and there was an older kid who was a dancer with his friend. This was really just a starting point for Star and Erwin.
First here is some back story for the story "Starskater", there is a community known as the Back Street Dances where dancers would often participate in dance battles, the winner is determined by how much the crowds cheers.
Star is a 16 year old street dancer who is popular for his break dancing and skating skills. While he looks like a delinquent, trouble maker and drop out, he's actually still in school with average-good grades and is very caring towards his friends and family. He is often mistaken due to his spiked dyed hair and pouty/glaring facial expression. He has a star tattoo on his neck and it was his younger sister who gave him his nickname, his real name is Allen Tanzar. It's not too noticable due to how I draw him but he's less slimer than other characters, his was just from the little thing in my dream.
Erwin is Star's best friend since childhood, he is often with Star and supporting him during the dance battles and he was actually the one to encourage his dancing. He is very skilled with hair dressing and is the one who cut, dyed and styled Star's hair, he also dyed Star's sister's hair hair too.
Cathy is also a street dancer and is also known as Cathiver for her "captivating" dance style (which I'm still working on). She's 19 and a high school graduate, the only reason she didn't attend any higher education was because she couldn't find any courses she liked. While she's very approachable and friendly but that wasn't always the case. When she was younger she was very intimidating and cold and her cold glare scared many people away.
Star and Erwin's clothes were based on Harajuku street fashion and slightly Pastel Kei like clothing too, because of his nickname I wanted Star's clothes to match the nickname, therefore giving him a very bright starry styled clothes. At first I struggled with the colour of his shorts but decided on a dark blue and pale yellow, the design of his shorts is based on a game that Star likes to play called Rosie the Cat, it is a puzzle game in the story. The title of the game was based of the character Rosie from Animal Crossing.
Since Star was the brighter and more popular of the two I wanted Erwin's clothes to be simple and stand out less, so instead I gave him more accessories instead. He wears badges on his jacket, one is a male symbol in pink, one is a female symbol in blue and one is a rainbow badge. In my stories there is no discrimination of gender or sexuality and the gender symbols are often found in many colours. The rainbow badge represents happiness instead of homosexuality and he also wears a blue top with a sun pattern, in Ruby City the sky is a deep scarlet colour during day and it's very rare seeing a rainbow or a sun in a blue sky, therefore it is good luck to see these and is said to bring happiness.
Cathy's clothes were designing with dancing in mind, I wanted her to wear something flowly and easy to move in but also not too short to flash her butt, Her top ends passed her waist and she wears shorts underneath. She also wears multiple other dresses with the same white and grey colour scheme. Her clothes as a teenager were actually from an online dressup game by Rinmaru. (btw they make the best dressup games ever please check them out here)
"StarSkater" is still currenting being worked on and I don't feel comfortable revealing too much of it at this point ^^; as more than half of it still needs to be worked on, but I already have a decent amount of plot to it. Cathy also has her own story called "Captivate" which is kind of a prequel to "StarSkater" but kind of not? (It focuses more on Cathy than Star- in fact Star doesn't appear in that story)
Well yeah that's today's blog entry. Time to get back to actually writing-
